Nashville MTA to Add 31 New Buses

July 11, 2018 By admin

Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority’s short-term summer bus schedule and route adjustments (ahem: reductions) are soon over!

News Channel 5 reports that the Nashville MTA will roll out 31 new buses and 19 new vans over the next two months beginning Thursday, July 12, 2018.

This is important news . . .
It means a much healthier fleet of buses that requires less frequent mechanical maintenance. With newer, healthier buses on the road, more buses will be running on-schedule and will need fewer spontaneous repairs. In short, once all these buses and vans are rolled out (pun intended), Nashville MTA riders will see more reliable service and improved safety.

Current ridership is around 25,000* riders daily. That’s a lot of people who rely on the safety and reliability of our public transit. So, this is a welcome change even though getting there has meant some short-lived disruption in service. We look forward to riding on these new buses!

Also, note the work Nashville MTA is doing to engage more local artists and inspire riders. Hope you get a chance to see and/or ride the Joy Bus before it is out of commission! If you have photos of the Joy Bus, please post to social media and tag @NashvilleMTA and @TAllianceMidTN!

*Previously, we had ‘17,000 riders daily’ but were contacted for correction: 17,000 people pass through MCC every day, but Nashville MTA sees 25,000 riders per day–there were 9.193 million riders in FY2017.
