Transit Together with Network for Sustainable Solutions at Global Mall Library, Antioch

Results

What immediate mobility challenges are you facing right now?

  • Antioch to Murfreesboro transit connection: Need to add a stop to 84 Murfreesboro at the Global Mall (like 88 + Dickerson)
  • Direct connections around downtown are difficult (crosstown routes)
  • Non-contiguous bike infrastructure
  • Dead head trips on buses (Nestar to Global Mall, Nolensville, etc.)
  • 1 car family- nearly impossible to get around sometimes
  • Uber prices make it hard to get anywhere on a night out + bus is unreliable
  • Parking expenses are very steep
  • Speed of transit trips are almost always longer than taking a car
  • Walking can be uncomfortable (aging communities)
  • The buses don’t run late at night
  • Bus stops are far away from my house
  • Work has me driving all over town with non-car options
  • Not enough e-bikes in Nashville
  • Lack of protected bike lanes
  • Lack of walking infrastructure
  • Language Accessibility Issue

What are the top 3 mobility infrastructure projects that you think are critical to the structure/quality of life in Nashville and that you would support?

  • Light Rail
  • Bus Rapid Transit
  • Complete Streets
  • Murfreesboro Pike Bus Rapid Transit
  • TOD along bus stops
  • Community Transit Centers
  • WeGo Star connection to the airport
  • Protected Bike Lanes

How does transportation affect housing and affordability?

  • Living near transit promotes affordable housing (cost of car upkeep + maintenance is removed)
  • Gallatin + Trinity apartments near the bus route are a great thing
  • Higher housing cost forces people to live far from town- you HAVE to have a car.
  • Parking
    • Structured is expensive
    • More transit = more density + more usable space not full of cars

I would use transit more if…

  • There was more frequency/priority for buses.
  • Parking was less subsidized.
  • If there was a way to get from the Global Mall to Murfreesboro
  • If the transit system was set up point to point and not a hub and spoke
  • There were better last-mile connection options (uber, scooter, bike share, all costly)
  • If it took me from where I am to where I want to be
  • If I would be on time to my destination
  • More frequent late-night options
  • If service from the airport were expanded- I would love a Light Rail option here.
  • There was better suburb coverage
  • If our transit was Light Rail!
  • If service was faster
  • If it was available at night/longer hours- vision problems would make it hard to drive at night.
  • If I had more willpower
  • If there were more stops/hubs/routes
  • If it was efficient and convenient
  • If it was a more attractive service (breaking stigma)
  • If there was more lighting/sidewalks at stops
  • If there were services at bus stations (coffee, bodega, newspaper)
  • Public art/beautification
  • Weather-protected stops with seating
  • Access to restrooms at stops

What questions should we be asking?

  • Why don’t we have transitioned zoning policies?
  • What are the positions of elected officials in transit?
  • Who isn’t using transit, + why?
    • Language barrier
  • How can we be scrappy with dedicated funding?
    • How can we get the biggest bang for our buck?
