MURFREESBORO — Residents who care about mass transit will get the chance to speak up and share their insights during a Nov. 5 event.
Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. for the 5 p.m. meeting Nov. 5 at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, 3050 Medical Center Parkway.
Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burgess said he intends to attend the meeting that is one of nine scheduled on mass transit in the counties that surround Davidson County.
Burgess said he supports increased government spending on mass transit to give residents more transportation options while relieving traffic congestion in the fast-growing region.
“This is an opportunity for all of the citizens and interested parties in every county in Middle Tennessee to give input about what the needs are,” Burgess said during a Tuesday phone interview. “This is just an opportunity for good public input on what some of the solutions and approaches need to be.”
The event will include a presentation about existing transit and transit options from Steve Bland, the chief executive officer of the Regional Transportation Authority of Middle Tennessee and Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority, said Jo Ann Graves, the executive director of Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee.
Residents attending the event will be able to ask Bland questions, and his staff members will also talk one-on-one with individuals, Graves said during a Tuesday phone interview.
The transit officials want feedback to learn what residents would “like to see in transit for the future of Rutherford County,” Graves said.
“We will ask them to fill out a survey,” said Graves, noting that the first of the nine meetings on mass transit took place in Wilson County.
